ELD’s Back on Track
Washington, D.C.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has accelerated the date for releasing the final rule on electronic logging devices (ELDs) up to September 30, 2015, from a recently announced date of November 30, 2015.
The FMCSA issued a supplemental report in which a spokesman said the November date was “a simple administrative error” and the rule should be released by September 30, 2015.
Acting FMCSA Administrator Scott Darling testified today before the Senate Commerce Sub-Committee on Surface Transportation, and in responding to a question by Senator Corey Booker (D-NJ) about ELDs, commented that the final rule will be out “before the end of this fiscal year” which coincides with September 30, 2015.
The Trucking Alliance recently announced that one of its priority issues in 2015 is to accelerate the ELD final rule and to begin the two year period for full industry compliance with the 2012 congressional mandate.
