The Trucking Alliance

The Alliance for Driver Safety & Security, also known as the Trucking Alliance, is a nonpartisan coalition of freight, logistics and supporting business partners. The Trucking Alliance vision is to advance safety reforms that can reduce and ultimately achieve zero large truck crash fatalities.

Our Top Priorities for Improving Commercial Truck Safety

The Trucking Alliance works tirelessly to advocate for federal safety reforms to reduce large-truck crashes and keep the general public safe. But there’s much more the trucking industry can do. These measures will create a safer and more sustainable future for all of us:

null

Strengthen Drug Testing of Commercial Truck Drivers

The federal government must expand drug testing to include all 9.2 million truck drivers, not just those drivers who operate the largest tractor-trailer rigs.

null

Stronger Safety Oversight for Trucking Companies

About 9 out of 10 U.S. trucking companies don’t have a federal safety rating. Let’s prioritize inspections of unrated carriers to help reduce the risks of crashes on our highways.

null

Independent Testing Standards for Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)

Hundreds of ELDs don’t work. The federal government should require all ELD manufacturers to have their devices certified by an independent lab to track a driver’s hours accurately.

null

Prevent Foreign Trucking Companies From Illegally Hauling Freight in the U.S.

Foreign-owned companies are transporting unauthorized freight. We urge federal and state law enforcement to hold these companies accountable.

null

Automation Technologies Should Assist Truck Drivers, Not Replace Them

Rather than devoting billions to developing self-driving large trucks, install those technologies into trucks manned by drivers. Help improve safety outcomes.

null

Combat Fraud and Identity Theft in the Trucking Industry

Fake DOT numbers, fraudulent driver’s licenses, and stolen cargo permeate the industry. Let’s step up enforcement actions to flag these criminal operations to protect truck drivers and the public.

null

Certify All Commercial Driver License (CDL) Training Schools

A lack of training poses a risk to the public’s safety. We support national safety standards for schools, performance-based training, and CDL testing that’s focused on real-world skills.

null

Modernize Trucking Insurance and Federal Liability Rules

The industry is now underinsured, with companies unable to pay injury claims. Current insurance requirements should be adjusted for inflation in today’s dollars, not what they were 45 years ago.

Road Safety Tips

Share the road, share the responsibility. In addition to fighting for trucking safety reforms, we believe commercial drivers have just as much a duty to be extra cautious while driving as passenger vehicles.
